SUNNYVALE PAL YOUTH BASEBALL

Confidence, Integrity, Leadership & Teamwork

Sunnyvale PAL and Junior Giants Baseball have teamed up to bring youth baseball to the City of Sunnyvale! Sunnyvale PAL Baseball has adopted the Junior Giants Baseball Program, which was created by the Giants Community Fund in 1994 and has over 90 leagues throughout California, Oregon and Nevada. The Giants Community Fund provides all of the uniforms, equipment and training, as well as the opportunity for players to earn tickets to select Giants games so they can experience a major league baseball game.

WHAT MAKES JUNIOR GIANTS BASEBALL UNIQUE?
  • It’s a free program for girls and boys from 5-13 years old (in Sunnyvale)

  • The league is non-competitive

  • Higher value placed on character than on wins and losses.

  • Programs in education, health, and violence prevention.

  • Pitching machines are used.

  • Professional training by the Giants is provided to the coaches.

The Jr Giants Program is a unique program that teaches players the fundamentals of baseball as well as focusing on the Four Bases of Character Development: Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork. Furthermore, the program emphasizes the importance of good Health, Education and Violence Prevention.

COMMITMENT & EXPECTATIONS

The program begins in early June and ends mid-August. The on-the-field commitment is one practice each week (during the week) and one game each Saturday, usually scheduled between 9:00 and 1:00 pm. Practices and games last approximately 75-90 minutes, depending on age division. Comparatively, Little League Baseball and Pony Baseball leagues have practice and game commitments that can be 4-5 days per week, lasting 2+ hours each day. As you can see the on-the-field time commitment for Jr. Giants is minimal.

What really separates the Jr Giants Program from the others is the weekly off-the-field work. Each week the participants receive an assignment intended to teach them about Confidence, Integrity, Leadership, and Teamwork. These are the Four Bases of Character Development. These weekly assignments also emphasize Health, Education, and Violence Prevention. As the players complete the weekly assignments they are rewarded with a series of prizes and opportunities to attend San Francisco and San Jose Giants games. In order for your child to be most successful in the program, they will need your help and encouragement throughout the season.
